INTRODUCING: NEXT GENERATION LEVEL 4 MODELS
Communication of ideas often requires 3D context models that are not just accurate but also instantly recognisable. Next Generation Context Models of as-built environments are textured, with all main architectural features 3D modelled yet with light geometry so the 3D model can be used in interactive applications.
This animation illustrates various stages of upgrading Level 3 model to fully textured Level 4 model. Level 3 model was captured using aerial stereo photogrammetry, facade detail and textures were captured using terrestrial photogrammetry. Final animation & renders were produced in Unreal Engine 4.
As the animation shows, there is no silver bullet automated technology to create this level of digital twin of the as-built environment. Hours of 3D modelling by highly trained people are still required but the top quality – only few years ago reserved for large AAA studios – can now be achieved within realistic time frames and budgets.
Next generation context 3D Models offer instantly recognisable environment for all stakeholders. Architects and planning professionals can communicate their ideas more efficiently as 3D models can be used in interactive 3D game-like applications with intuitive controls. Used in game engine, animations and high quality screenshots like these can be produced in real-time. Used with rendering engines, users can produce near-photorealistic renders and videos.
