METHODOLOGY – LEVEL 2 + 3

Level 2 + 3 digital 3D Models are the most accurate and popular. The production team is highly skilled and take great pride in capturing highest quality 3D city models. Every point and every line in each 3D model is manually captured captured using stereo photogrammetry. We call this process X Y Z Mapping.

PHOTOGRAMMETRY

Photogrammetry is the science of making measurements from photographs, especially for recovering the exact positions of surface points. We use stereo photogrammetry using latest high-resolution aerial imagery to capture our 3D Models. To explain complicated process in very few words, as a survey aeroplane flies over a city area, it takes series of photographs which overlap by 60%. With each photograph its GPS position, height, tilt, pitch and roll are recorded. Using this data + camera calibration data (to eliminate lens distortion effects), the imagery is triangulated to its correct real-world coordinates.

Once the source aerial imagery is triangulated the capture process can begin. In areas where two images overlap, one image is projected into one eye, the second image into another eye and and this way the Z value (depth) becomes clear.

KEY FEATURES

latest source imagery

LATEST SOURCE IMAGERY

The High Detail 3D Model is manually captured using stereo photogrammetry. The source photography and its associated data is from the latest high-res 12.5cm GSD imagery collected from September 2016 onwards. This gives the user the confidence that the most recent additions to the UK skyline are included in the 3D model.

ACCURATELY CAPTURED BUILDINGS

Level 3 Model buildings are accurate to 15cm in all axis. Using aerial stereo photogrammetry, all roof features and structures are precisely manually captured with correct shapes and slopes. Vertical walls of buildings in Level 3 3D models are made as downwards extensions of roof structures. If facade detail is required, customers can upgrade to Level 4 models.

ACCURATELY CAPTURED TERRAIN

The terrain of any site is not flat – 3D Models reflect this. Terrain captured using the same manual photogrammetry method as buildings and is accurate to 15cm in all axis at curb level.

Terrain is separated into land use categories such as roads, man-made surfaces, greenspaces and water body.

3D_model_Layers

3D DATA STRUCTURED IN LAYERS

3D Models of London in Level 3 are structured in Layers. Level 3 Buildings are on one layer, terrain model is separated in layers such as Roads, Man-made surfaces, Greenspaces and Water body, but also Bridges, Embankment Walls and River Structures. The last layer in this dataset is the Trees layer.

3D formats available from Joanna James

FILE FORMATS TO SUIT YOUR WORK FLOW

Level 3 + 2 3D models are delivered in AutoCad Solid DWG, SketchUp SKP and Filmbox FBX formats for easy editing that suits most workflows. The 3D Model is easy to import into Revit, 3D Studio Max, Maya or Cinema 4D.

3D model_Company_wide_licence

COMPANY-WIDE MULTI-USE LICENCE

There are a few restrictions on how you can use 3D models. The End User Licence Agreement is easy to understand and allows anybody in your company to use the data over and over again for 5 full years.

3D model print ready from Joanna James

3D PRINT READY

The High Detail 3D Model is made with high-end 3D printing in mind. Files are easy to print using most office and professional 3D Printers. Because the 3D Model is structured in tiles, you can easily build larger models using printers with smaller build volume.

ARCHITECTURAL MODELS ANYWHERE UK

Digital 3D Models for architects & planners of the built environment. For the entire United Kingdom. Choose from 3 levels of detail.
